Barcelona thrashed Valencia 7-0 in the Copa Del Rey semifinals first leg at Camp Nou. Although Valencia were down to ten men quite early in the game,this was a ruthless performance from the treble winners for whom Neymar missed a penalty and several other chances were spurned. For Gary Neville,this might be the lowest he has felt in sometime. For an inexperienced young English coach, La Liga especially at a club like Valencia it was always going to be tough but this defeat surely has put an end to Neville’s ambitions at Valencia. Although the crowd at Mestalla has not turned against him, after this harrowing defeat there would be no surprise if they did.
For Arsenal who are now in fourth position in the league, the Champions League tie against Barcelona looks like it could be a nightmare. Arsenal are struggling to score in the league and it looks like their title challenge is on the verge of collapsing once again. Surely none of their most ardent supporters also would believe that they can get past Barcelona, but a thrashing like Valencia got would be a disaster for Wenger and his players. Arsenal have played some famous games against Barcelona and have taken the game to them at times but this Barcelona side is playing on a different level and Wenger would require all of his players to be at their best and pray that a miracle happens.
