Many Manchester United fans have been clamoring for Wayne Rooney’s exclusion from the first team. The England and United captain has been struggling for quite sometime now and United fans have finally run out of patience. Last weekend fans were even asking Van Gaal to sack Rooney as the captain and replace him with the German national team captain Bastian Schweinsteiger. But Van Gaal’s decision to drop Rooney will be an easy one if he does do it as currently the scouser is carrying a knock and is in doubt for the West Ham game.

Wayne Rooney’s struggles have only exacerbated United’s attacking woes this season. With their Champions League knockout participation being a huge doubt, Van Gaal has very little time to sort his team out. Injuries have hurt United, but after another summer spending spree, the Dutch coach should have no complaints about his squad depth or imbalance. It doesn’t look likely that United will ditch Van Gaal’s philosophy and go back to their swashbuckling attacking days of Fergie, but fans would atleast expect the players to show some urgency and intensity in attacking.
