Manchester United’s international break came at a wrong time according to Van Gaal as he didn’t have time with the players after the devastating loss against Arsenal. Van Gaal tactics were under immense scrutiny after the humiliation at the emirates.
Manchester United’s starting lineup against Everton though shouldn’t see any drastic changes as the Dutch coach generally doesn’t favour much rotation and tends to stick to his favoured players a lot. This attitude has come in for much criticism as Wayne Rooney and Bastian Schweinsteiger’s selection against Arsenal proved Van Gaal completely wrong. One more major problem for Van Gaal is to sort out his defence as Matteo Darmian is struggling at right back and the Dutch coach should finally acknowledge that Daley Blind is simply not a CB. Chris Smalling has been the sole bright spot in defence as the Englishman looks to have matured and is as a future captain at Old Trafford.
Another issue for Van Gaal is the form of young winger Memphis Depay,the Dutchman for all his brilliance in front of goal has at times struggled against the tougher oppositions in the Premier League. The young winger has much learning to do to reach a consistent level where he could play every week for Manchester United.
