Manchester United forgot their humiliation against Arsenal in quick time as they were able to beat Everton at Goodison Park quite easily. Ander Herrera’s inclusion from the start was a surprise given that the Spaniard never seems to be able to convince Van Gaal in playing him although he is easily one of the most creative players in the final third.

Tactics

After the humiliation against Arsenal,Van Gaal opted not to play two players upfront. Anthony Martial started on the left and Wayne Rooney up front. Ander Herrera was given a free role and his influence proved key in the game. Everton were lackluster in attack and although United’s right was weak with Juan Mata failing to perform his defensive duties. The right flank of United was very open with Mata taking up a central position but Everton failed to take any advantage of this weakness. Mirallas was a big miss for Everton as they failed to create any chances against a strong United defence.

In the second half after Juan Mata was substituted off ,Everton took control of the game. But United’s third goal killed the game off. This was a perfect response by Van Gaal’s team to the loss against Arsenal but Everton were very poor and lacked any sort of an enthusiasm to counter United’a attacks.
