Manchester United go into this derby as the favourites after an impressive turnaround in form over the past few games. On the other hand City are struggling and now find themselves in fourth position after a disappointing loss against Crystal Palace last time they played in the Premier League. Van Gaal has played the same line up in recent time opting to leave star signings Angel Di Maria and Falcao on the bench. United’s recent form has been primarily due to the change in formation and also due to the terrific understanding between Juan Mata and Ander Herrera. Mata has been playing as a false right winger and Herrera has been partnering Michael Carrick in a 4-1-4-1 formation. Fellaini in his forward destroyer role has been a revelation as he is combining his aerial prowess with some good footwork to devastating effect.
City on the other hand have problems all over the pitch. With Yaya Toure looking off colour,City’s midfield has not been able to assert their dominance. Also with Aguero’s recent goal drought,City go into this fixture as clear second favourites but desperately need to get something positive from this game.
